Further to discussions with police, security, licensing, community, youth and council representatives and in light of recent incidents of antisocial and, in some cases, criminal behaviour by a minority of football supporters at games throughout non-league and at Cables home games, the club feels it necessary to issue the following guidance to fans ahead of Saturday’s visit of Macclesfield FC that will have an impact on the match day experience for everybody.

These measures are not a decision we have taken lightly, but the damage to property, the abuse of our staff, volunteers and visiting officials while trying to make Hope Street a great place to enjoy football have unfortunately reached a point we can no longer tolerate.

We have also listened to our supporters and visitors and are trying to address some of the shortcomings of our facilities that are an issue when there is a good crowd.

  • The club can confirm that the ban on unattended under 16-year-olds will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
  • CCTV will be in operation throughout the game. this will include the wearing of personal body cameras by certain staff members. This is to ensure the safety of supporters as well as the staff and volunteers.
  • We ask fans to stagger their arrival to the ground. Gates will open from 1pm and all 3 turnstiles will be in operation. Please note that these are all cash only.
  • Anyone entering the ground is subject to search by staff using metal detecting wands. Bags may be searched for prohibited items such as glass bottles or alcohol.
  • There will be an additional bar in operation within the main room selling cans and limited bottles. These MUST BY LAW be served in plastic cups during the game.
  • Additional toilet facilities will be in operation, located to the rear of the new build adjacent to the main stand.
  • Fans must NOT go onto the pitch at ANY time unless invited to do so by a club official. Anyone who does this may be the subject of a football banning order.
  • The club reminds fans that the use of pyrotechnics anywhere within the ground is forbidden. Any person in possession of such items will be refused entry or ejected from the Stadium.
  • Racial, homophobic or discriminatory abuse, chanting or harassment is strictly forbidden and will result in arrest and/or ejection from the Stadium. Any person receiving an Official Caution or found guilty in a Court of Law of an offence involving racist behaviour or abuse against any spectator, official or player will be banned for an indefinite period from all future football matches at the Stadium.

The club reserves the right to refuse entry to the ground at any point. The club also reserves the right to ask individuals to leave the ground at any time.

At the request of Merseyside Police, we can and will take photographs and video recordings that may be used as evidence of public order offences or criminal behaviour.
